Actually this is more like an 'All Time Top 20' than my Top 10 on 01/01/2003.
I figure a malt master attempting to become a malt magus could crib an extra 10 spots for his top ever list, especially as there are 44 malts in my Malt Mileage that score 90 or more and to be perfectly honest I wouldn't stand on the final score too firmly as they are numbers accumulated over 11 years and who can really compare a whisky scored in 1991 against one tasted in 2002, probably under different circumstances and possibly using different glassware.  Nevertheless, while I might not quibble about a point here or there these are the whiskies that I thought were outstanding and exceptional when I tasted them.  I haven't included any that I would have second thoughts about recommending for a best ever tasting.

I suppose the real danger with these lists is that they invariably contain top end whiskies that only the lucky or wealthy will have ever tasted.  I can't help that, but I can provide alternative lists that might provide more useful information for people who want to either shop to a budget or are willing to tread unpopular paths to lesser known distilleries.

95     Aberlour 1964 - Best ever Aberlour - amazingly good whisky.
95     Black Bowmore 1964 - Very different and highly individual but unmistakably great.
95     Glenfarclas 23yo 1962 William Cadenhead - Sometimes independents deliver - this one is superb.
94     Aberlour 1969 - Almost as good as the 1964 and marginally more obtainable.
94     Glenfarclas 35yo 1959 (Whyte & Whyte) - A lot of people's all time favourite 'farclas and I wouldn't argue.
94     Glenfarclas 1961 (43%, OB) - Best whisky tasted 2002. Deepest sherry treatment of any tried, ever!
94     Glenlivet 1973 (56%, Signatory) - One of the eye-opener whiskies tried on the pilgrimage to PLOWED at Thousand Oaks.
94     Laphroaig 1976 - Best whisky of 2001 - an impeccably well mannered Islay.
93     Ardbeg 15yo (Allied Distillers) - An "Ardbeggeddon" revelation - must have been bottled in the 1980's.
          It has a depth and roundness of flavour that the more recent offerings lack.  I think it has Ardbeg rather than Kildaton peat.
93     Glenfarclas 21yo 1973 (46%, Whyte & Whyte) - Not my highest scoring but probably the most fun malt ever.
          Has a lightness of profile that dances in the glass and on the palate.  No gravitas or anything staid about it.
93     Glenfarclas 29yo 1971 "Xmas Malt" (53.1%, OB) - In the same style as the 1959 and 1961 - pretty damn good.
93     Highland Park 25yo 53.3% - Best Malt of 2000 tasted in Oz - blew any and all Macallans released in Oz that year out of the water.
93     Lagavulin 1979 DE DMPX - My all time favourite Lagavulin - a step up from the 16yo.
93     Longrow Sherrywood 10yo 46% (B1999) - Another Ardbeggeddon revelation - great malt.
92     Ardbeg 17yo 1975 (Gordon & MacPhail CC) - One of the legendary 1975 G&Ms - truly great malt.
92     Ardbeg 30yo (Very Old) - Another Ardbeggeddon revelation - starts awesome but has a fragility that speaks of exceptional age and elegance.
92     Caol Ila 20yo (1972) (Gordon & MacPhail) - Probably my favourite malt from the early days.
          This one was bottled 1992 and was exceptional value for money - but you'd pay a bomb for it now.
92     Springbank 15yo (OB 'old') 46% - Has a better structure and mouthfeel than anything bottled at that age since 1990.
          Don't know why but the older bottlings have more going for them.
92     Springbank 31yo 1967 46% (MMcD) - Equal second best Malt of 2002 - has a lot of lovely fruit characters and very little if any first fill sherry.
92     Springbank 32yo 1967 (PLOWED) - All hail to Brian McHenry and PLOWED - this was another Ardbeggeddon revelation.
