Frequent visitors of this site may notice that the list of links has changed quite
a bit over the years. One of the reasons is that I've grown slightly spoilt by my
own
personal favourite websites. They offer so much fresh and independent
information that I rarely feel the need to check anywhere else. It's a good
thing that more and more
distilleries and independent bottlers care enough
to have their own 'official' websites, but some of them are offer very little
useful information. I've taken the liberty of excluding the useless sites and
the 'high-tech' ones that try to invade your computer with spam-cookies.
My selection of
whisky shops & bars is purely personal, and the same goes
for the
whisky publications. I've collected the websites of tasting societies
and other malt-afficionados all over the world under the header '
projects'.
The
solid links are links to non-whisky related sites I visit and enjoy a lot.

Please note that the list is by no means complete - and that's not what it aims to be either.
I just don't it's very useful to refer to sites that haven't been updated in two years.
The links have been last reviewed on 01/02/2005.

The friendly hosts of Malt Madness. Good site; a lot of interesting stuff.

Attractive design, but the site is a major disaster if you don't like 'cookies'.
A site with a personality of it's own. Not a lot of actual information, though.
A beautiful site with not too much content. Watch out: tricky navigation.
Basic site with information about the range, the distilley and the visitor centre.
The distillery was purchased by Gordon & MacPahil and re-opened in 1998.
The revitalised distillery has a revitalised website. Purplest site on the web?
Company site. Great design, but like most official site the content is pretty lame.
The new whisky is great, but I don't care too much for the official website.
A very attractive site - but why did they make it so difficult to enter?
Since Mr. Symington bought Edradour, it's Scotland's smallest independent distillery.
Basic website with a little information about history, the range, distributors, etc.
The site has lots of usefull information, but the navigation is pretty confusing.
Another generic site - focused much more on marketing than on whisky.
Warning! Absolutely and utterly useless if you don't accept hostile cookies.
Now here's a very pretty site - and once again the navigation is utter crap!
Just like most other distillery sites, it looks good but offers little information.
Nicely designed website in the style of the official bottlings. Good work.
Decent enough, but why does every distillery site looks just like the next one?
I'm not too crazy about the malt, but the site has some truly original offerings.
One of Scotland's latest distilleries (or rather projects) already has a website.
Now here's a site with a style of it's own. Also check out 'friends of Laphroaig'.
One of the very best 'official distillery sites - Excellent design and information.
An extensive site with information about the distillery, the range, etc.
Distillery annex hypermarket. Mostly 'under construction'.

Here are a few 'foreign' distilleries;
Ireland's only independent distillery produces numerous brands.
At 'Brennerei Zentrum Bauernhof' in Switzerland they do actually make whisky!

A nice, tightly designed website with just the bare essentials.
Unfortunately, the website seems to be down most of the time.
Scotland's oldest bottler, by their own admission. Little info on the site.
Company in Brittany (France) that bottles their own whiskies.
Flashy site - if you like that kind of stuff. It's quite funny, though.
A butt-ugly website, but you can find all you need there.
Not much more than a price list with a few pictures.
Well, I'm not sure if two pages can be called a website...
Tight design, but the 'news' is from 2000. Hardly fresh, eh?
This site tends to crash my browser - visit at your own risk.
Very clean website with only the most basic data.
Bad job. One of the worst 'commercial' sites I've come accross.
Basic website about company and brands. Very little info.
It's about 'single malts Scotch whisky', apparently. Fresh industry news.

Solid Links

These liquid links link to websites, but there are other ways to stay informed.
Take news groups (a.k.a. usenet groups) like
alt.drinks.scotch-whisky, for example.
Both experienced maltsters and curious beginner's use them to exchange information.
Mailinglist like
Malts-L are a wonderful resource as well; the news just drops into your
inbox by itself. (Obviously, it's a pretty good idea to join the
Malt Madness Mailinglist
as well.) And you don't have to rely on just the world wide web for information and
news about single malt whisky. I've mentioned a few books in the
Beginner's Guide
that provide a treasure trove of information to both novices and seasoned imbibers.
Last but not least, there are publications like Whisky Magazine and Malt Advocate.
