The way I started or discovered SMSW can be read in my first e-pistle .
I won't repeat myself here, so I can keep this little introduction short and sweet...

Some time ago, I was born. You can see me with my family in the opening moments of Stanley Kubrick's "A space Oddysee 2001". I can be seen throwing up a bone… Bugger, wrong Science Fiction.

Some time ago, I was born in the same year Neil A. left his footprints on the surface of the moon. (I hope he wiped his feet). Many years later I went to University to study Chemisty. I thought Organic Chemistry was the most interesting thing around, so I wanted to study that. After I while, I had to choose a direction and surprisingly I didn't choose for the Organic direction. I chose Biochemistry and Microbiology. I'm sorry to say that I never finished this, but it's still my first love. I switched to something called Business Informatics, which I hope to finish (successfully) in the very near future. A way to pay for that second study was going to work. I found a job with the local Power & Gas firm, and after 5 years I still work there. I'm now a planner, but maybe something else is in store for me in the new year.

This top 10 are not the 10 highest scoring malts on my malt mileage list.
Why you might add ? Oh just read on…

1) St. Magdalene 19yo 1979 UDRM.
This a winner. Multi-layered talent. Very complex.

2) Springbank Millenium Edition 35yo.
This one has it all, the nose and the palate. Very full. Love at first sip.

3) Macallan 18yo 1981 ESC 1.
For the Sherry of it all. It really was a nice cask.

4) Longmorn 28yo 1971 Scott's Selection.
This was like drinking a steam locomotive. It had the coal, the deep Sherry, the steam. Very heavy, but very pleasing.

5) Caol Ila 10yo 1993 Cadenhead's.
Andries (of Cadenhead's in Amsterdam), only had 1 mini of it left, but opened it immediately.
It was great - very complex for a 10yo. But it had more of everything, compared to all other 10yo CI's around.
Also Wilson & Morgan had some great young CI's I can remember a great 1989, but also the 1991 was a favourite.

6) Talisker 20yo Sherry OB.
The winner of the MM Awards2003. Beautiful Talisker.
Almost unbelievable for a OB of 9000 bottles. Very smooth and powerful.

7) Port Ellen 22yo 1978 UDRM.
Got this one from Johannes' trading stock. A very fine example of a great Islay Whisky.
A real shame, considering the history, that it was closed down.

8) Laphroaig 10yo Cask Strength.
Absolutely great, powerful, with a lot of character. Peat 'n Sweet. One to have always around.
It will never let you down. I can only hope they keep this one as good as it is, because ruining the 10yo is enough.

9) Highland Park 12yo and 18yo.
Both fantastic whiskies for a reasonable price. Great OB's I also recommend to have around the house.
Nice contrast with the Laphroaig 10 C/S. So you can't miss with these ones. Absolute favourites of mine.

10)  Lagavulin 16yo & Macallan 10yo C/S.
Funny combination, but my way of mentioning them both without expanding my top 10 beyond the 10.
Both extremely tasty, and affordable. Both must haves. Again, keep the quality up !
