The Liquid Blog contains the more than 150 log entries that were written between January 2005 to December 2009 - but I have to admit that it never was a real 'blog' as such. So, in 2010 I decided to jump on the bandwagon and start a new Blogspot Blog which allows me to post reports from anywhere in the world. Check out my new blog - or join the mailinglist for irregular updates via e-mail. |
Scroll down for a complete overview of all liquid log entries I've written between 1997 and 2004.
My Liquid Blog contains all entries from 2005 onwards. The rantings and ravings in my log & blog
are listed chronologically; If you're looking for my notes on a specific single malt it might be best
to use my alphabetically sorted Track Record (1997 - 2006). The name of each listed malt whisky
is directly linked to the corresponding tasting notes in this Liquid Log / Blog.
But maybe you're not looking for a specific malt, only for the '
best' or the 'worst' malts?
Not to worry - thanks to the Hit List and Shit List in the mAlmanac section you don't have to read
my entire log to find out which single malts I like best and which malts I like worst... And if you're
on a tight budget like myself the Bang-For-Your-Buck List should come in handy; it list a few malts
that offer (in my humble opinion) the best value for money.
Please note that most of the experiences, opinions
and observations and opinions that are recorded in
my Liquid Log are purely personal
and subjective.
I'm not a machine and just like a normal person I
have my own preferences and hang-ups. Please feel
free to disagree with me if you really, really want to.
I'm sure you'll come to your senses eventually...
This Liquid Log wasn't the first section of this website - the first page was actually my 'Little Black Book'.
Because the black book
contained only tasting notes, it didn't offer room for other thoughts and observations.
Most log entries are pretty straightforward reports on my sampling sessions, but every 10th entry usually deals with a 'bigger'
issue in my whisky life. At a few points in time my whisky diary evolved - or mutated if you will - and starting in 2010 I published a Google Blog,
separate from this website. Otherwise, the growing amount of content would have forced me to do some more heavy renovations of the site - and I decided that I could use my time more effectively.
When I started MM in 1995 I
still believed that the perfect single malt whisky
existed, I just hadn't found it yet.
After sampling a few hundred whiskies I began to realise that the 'perfect' single malt whisky did not exist. But I also learned that there are huge differences in style
between different malt whiskies, which kept me interested in trying new malt whiskies whenever I could. So, I just kept sampling whiskies and writing about them. By the end of 2009 my Liquid Log contained tasting notes on
more than 3,000 different single malt whiskies - not to mention hundreds of blends, vatted malts, etc. That seemed like an excellent opportunity to switch to the brand new Google Blog. You can find links to the first 200 log entries below; click HERE for an overview of liquid log entry #200 and beyond.

--When you're looking for notes on 'other' whisky types
--(blends, grain whiskies, vatted malt
whiskies, etc,) you
--should check out the Deviant Drams section of the site.
It
contains notes on all the blends and (single) grains that
I already mentioned, as well as vatted malts, the so-called
'bastard malts' and all the whiskies that are produced in
other countries than Scotland (Ireland, Japan, the US, etc.)
My liquid log started out in 1997 as a chronological record of
my quest to find the perfect single malt whisky. Since 1997,
I've discovered that the 'perfect' whisky doesn't exist - but I
just kept writing down my thoughts, opinions & tasting notes.
This Liquid Log has survived several crashes of the website.
As a result, I had to make some changes
to the lay-out and
navigation. So, don't be alarmed if you experience feelings of
confusion along the way - that's perfectly natural. You can find
an overview of the first 200 entries (covering 1997-2004) on
this page. My old log became a Liquid Blog in 2005, which was
still an integral part of this website. However, in 2010 it was
about time that I switched to a brand new Blogspot Blog...
This Liquid Log is sort of an 'archive' section of the 400 tasting
reports and observations about whisky that I've written since
1997. In 2012 I wrote my last liquid log entry for a while - but
I'll keep developing the other sections of Malt Madness further.
