My mother's family, the Wisharts, came to Canada from the Orkneys in the early 1800's, to work for the Hudson's Bay Company. Other Orcadian ancestors, the Spences, Sutherlands, Inkstaters, Halcros and Honeymans had arrived in Canada earlier, for the same reason.  Whisky was the sad undoing of many of them; probably the reason so many of my family became abstainers, and why I myself drank very little until recently.

Now in my 52nd year, I began tasting malts seriously about two years ago.  Prior to that my intake of alcoholic beverages was about 24 bottles of beer and a 750 ml bottle of Johnnie Walker Black per year.  I now try to drink malts, in moderation, about 5 evenings per week.  This, on doctor's orders.  Apparently whisky is as good for you as red wine, and there are no nasty after effects.  My palate is still developing, and my favourite whiskies change from time to time, but the island malts have been consistently on my shelves since I discovered them.

Name: Krishna Prasad Nukala
from: Mumbai (Bombay), India
Born : 1955
Single malt Experience: from 1994. Tasted about 25 malts.
Not having much of stock because they are not available in India. First of all nobody knows about them and secondly if they are available it is only in 5 star hotels. I get a few from friends & relatives who are on trips abroad and also whenever I am abroad I try as many as I can.
Favorite malts: Lagavulin 16 (and Macallan 18.)
Because: Lagavulin is bold and peaty
(and Macallan is very sherried, woody and mellow.)
Favourite bar: None.
(Any place with good friends and good single malt makes me happy.)

T hese E-Reporters are not just 'professionals' and 'experts', mind you!
The goal of this part of my site is collecting as many different perspectives and insights as possible. This means that there's room for the experiences and opinions of both curious beginners and seasoned imbibers. Roman from Israel has just recently discovered single malt whisky, while Craig from Australia is a genuine expert who has won several single malt tasting awards. Each foreign correspondent offers his own unique point of view.
